Tapiola. Journey to the Source of Wisdom

02.11.2006

On 2 November at 4 pm an exhibition of Estonian painting opens at the church of Tapiola in Finland.
The exhibition ‘Journey to the Source of Wisdom’ contains paintings from fourteen Estonian painters who all deal with religious and philosophic issues. The artists included are Olav Maran, Peeter Mudist, Nikolai Kormašov, Jüri Arrak, Eva Jänes, Uno Roosvalt, Leili Muuga, Lola Liivat, Kristiina Kaasik, Tiiu Pallo-Vaik, Jaan Elken, Tiit Pääsuke, Mo Kreegi, Kreg A. Kristring.
The uniting element in the work of all these painters is more direct or indirect religiosity, and a certain yearning for transcendence. The exhibition is part of a bigger program of ‘In the Eye of the Sacred’, which takes place in the conference centre Dipoli of the Helsinki Technical University from 30 November to 2 December under the title ‘Religions and views interlocking and side by side’.
During the conference works of Estonian graphic artists are also displayed. Both exhibitions are compiled and designed by Eva Jänes and supported by the Estonian Institute, Estonian Council of Churches, Finnish Institute and the church of Tapiola.
